After graduation from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 1985, Dan worked as the Special Public Defender of the 16th Judicial Circuit. In 1988, only three years after graduating law school, Dan was co-counsel for the defense in the death penalty trial of State of Missouri v. Wacaser. The case caught widespread media attention because the defendant would have been the first woman put on death row in the state of Missouri.

He was recruited away from criminal defense by the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office. From 1992 through 2009, Mr. Miller tried high profile prosecutions focusing on murder trials. In 1993, Dan was voted "Trial Prosecutor of the year." In 1997 he was made a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the famous "Firefighters" trial, which involved the deaths of six firefighters from a 1988 explosion. From this trial, Dan received awards from the Department of Labor, the ATF and the Kansas City, Missouri, Firefighters.

Mr. Miller is a member of the Missouri Bar and Eastern Jackson County Bar Associations. He has taught seminars in the presentation of evidence, such as chain of custody and foundations for admissibility of evidence. He has also taught classes on closing arguments, voir dire, direct examination and cross examination.
